Kate and Gibbs were walking in the woods trying to get back to the car."Tell me again how we got lost,because I clearly thought they taught you this stuff in the marines"Kate said as she walked behind Gibbs.It was the middle of winter and despite the four layers of clothes she had on she was still freezing.'Not even a warm fire would warm me up right now'she thought.Gibbs was still in a foul mood.He swore that the car had to have been stolen as he never gets lost.Well it was dark and everything looked the same."Do you think Tony and McGee are looking for us?"she asked changing the subject.After all it wasnt his fault they were out wondering the wilderness.Kate quickened her pace to try and catch up with Gibbs' big steps."They better be"he said answering her question.Finally they reached a clearing and could see some lights up ahead.Kate gave a greatful sigh and started to jog ahead.Gibbs on the otherhand slowed down taking not of the change in the surface of the ground."Kate"he called.She stopped and turned to face him."Come on Gibbs,we are so close"she told him.He shook his head."Slowly come back over here"he said.She instantly picked up the urgency and concern in his voice.She took a step back towards him and heard a crack.She looked down at the grey ground and saw thing cracks travel oit from underneath her foot.She let out an annoyed groan."Please tell me that there was no lake here because that would really put an end to my already crappy day"she said aloud enough for Gibbs to hear."It's going to keep cracking"he told her.She stood still not knowing what to do, while Gibbs' mind was running trying to figure out what to do."Kate.slowly take off your jacket and throw it over to me"he said.She looked at him."If you havent noticed it's freezing cold and"she started to object."If you fall through the ice you need something warm and dry so you dont get sick"he told her.She complied and started to unzip her NCIS windbreaker."Well what about you?"she asked out of the blue.Gibbs was speechless for a moment before normal thoughts returned to him."Nope,I'll be going in after you"he said as he started to take his windbreaker and the jacket underneath off and put them by the nearest tree,safe from any water.She nodded her.She threw her windbreaker and her second jacket over to him."Now what?"she asked,her nerves finally getting the better of her."Now slowly as you can shuffle back to me"he instructed."Shuffle?"she asked."If you take another step you could crack the ice even more.I'm trying to get you back to land dry Kate.Trust me"he urged.She took a deep breath."I trust you"she said,more to herself then to him.She started to shuffle.He was right the ice wasnt cracking.She started to have high hopes for her day.That was until she started hearing the horrible sound and her left foot crashed through the ice,followed by her right."Gibbs"she cried out as she tried to grab the solid ice around her,but she slipped under the frezzing water.It felt like pins and needles were stable her body making it hard for her to move.Gibbs rushed to where Kate had gone under and the ice started to break under his weight.He could see her trying to kick up to the surface.He slipped in and grabbed her squirming body instantly.He pulled her back above the water and she grabbed the icy edge and pulled herself out,with the help of Gibbs.She crawled to the saftey of the dirt forest floor while Gibbs hoisted himself out.He rushed to her shivering side."You...ok?"he splurted.She just nodded,her mouth chatting to much to speak.He helped her to her feet."We...have to find...a place...to stay"he told her.Once again she nodded.He picked up their jackets,careful not to get them to wet,then he steared them back to the forest,hoping to find an abandoned shed.They walked for about an hour before Gibbs spotted a wooden structure ahead of them.He looked down at Kate who still hadnt said a word even though her lips were stating to turn a normal colour."We're going to be ok"he reassured her."I trust you Gibbs"she told him,her voice still shaky.They reached the wooden shack.It wasnt very big,only adoning a small fireplace,a double bed and a single chair.Gibbs lead Kate in and sat her in the chair.He flung the jackets on the bed.He knelt down in front of Kate and took her hands."It feels even colder in here"she told him.He ran a hand along her still damp hair."I know.I'm going to find some wood and try and get a fire started.While I'm gone I want you out of your wet clothes and wrapped in your jackets"he ordered her.She nodded her head.He stood and looked around the small space.It wasnt big enough to live in,it didnt even have to proper facilities.Then it hit him.'Horny teenagers'he thought as he closed the door behind him.Kate sighed and gathered all her strength and got up from the chair and went over to the bed where the dry clothes were.She started with her shoes and socks.Then her pants and tights.She pulled off her top and singlet and threw them on the pile.She shifted through the jackets finding hers and pulled them on as fast as she could.She instantly felt warmer but her legs were still frozen.She bent down and seperated her clothes hoping they would dry by morning.She jumped when she heard the squeak of the door opening and the cool chill of fresh air.Gibbs came in with sticks in one hand and two medium logs in the other.he walked over and dropped them by the fire place.He stood up and looked at Kate.Her jackets covered her torso but stopped at her waist leaving her legs and panties bare."Warmer?"he asked trying not to stare."The top half of me yes"she said."Theres more logs out there.Find some matches and paper and try start a fire"he instructed,a little out of breath.Kate took a quick look around her."Why would there be matches and paper here?"she asked."Because this is a love nest.I'm sure there are some magazines under the bed and matches around here somewhere"he said as he walked out.Kate said a silent 'Oh' then quickly checked under the bed and there was a pile of dusty magazines.She grabbed them and stood up and started her hunt for the matches.She threw the magazines over with the wood as she continued her search for the matches.She stopped and thought.'Think like a horny teenager Kate'she ssid to herself.She smiled and walked over to the bed,lifted up the mattress and there under the end corner was a full packet of matches.She smiled to herself as she went and knelt by the fire place.She piled pages from the magazines and sticks in the fire place.She had gotten it going when Gibbs walked back in with his arms full of different sized logs."You found the matches"he stated piling the logs by the wall."Yeah,I just though like a teenager.You should get out of your wet clothes"she told him.He stopped and looked down at himself then up at Kate.She smiled."I wont look"she said.Gibbs didnt say anything as he went over to the bed and stropped down to his boxers and pulled his jakets on.He turned around to see Kate placing two logs onto the roaring fire."Who taught you how to make a fire?"he asked.He saw her smile as she watched the flames crackled."My dad.He taught all of us.He said it would probably save our lives one day"."And it has"he said.Kate looked away from the flames then up at Gibbs."No,that was you.Thank you Gibbs"she said with utter most sincerity."Anytime"he said as he gazed into her dark eyes.A small smile spread across Kate's face causing Gibbs to look away.He spotted her pile of clothes.He picked up her pants then his.He placed them both ob the chair and moved it closer to the fire."Get these dry that way we can cover up in the morning"he told.She just nodded.She moved over so he could sit down beside her.They sat in silence just relishing in the warmth.Gibbs was the first to break the silence."You're right"he said.Kate looks at him questionly."About what?"she asked."I should have been able to find our way back"."Gibbs,I didnt mean what I said back there.I was just tired and frustrated and"she started explaining herself."But you were right"he cut her off.She let out a sigh.She wasnt going to win this fight."How about we get some sleep"she suggested changing the subject.He nodded and stood up.He then helped Kate up and she dusted herself off."You take the bed"he instructed.Kate looked from the bed to him."Where are you going to sleep?"she asked.He shrugged his shoulder."Floor"."No Gibbs.We are both adults.We can share the bed,the floor is not an option"she told him.'Typical Gibbs being the gentle man'she thought.He looked at the bed then at Kate and shook his head."No"he said and turned away from her."What do you mean no?"she asked grabbing his arm."Kate if I sleep on that bed with you,I...I wont be able to act like an adult"he told her.She stared at him.Her heart was racing and she felt her cheeks flush.She doesnt know what possesed her but she stepped towards him with a smile.She grabbed the zipper of his windbreaker and slowly started pulling it down."You know,Tony once told me the best way to keep warm is to press our bodies together.It apparently works better if we are naked"she said in a seductive voice as she unzipped the windbreaker,then undid his second jacket exposing his bare torso to her."Eskimos"Gibbs told her.She nodded."So are we going to share the bed?"she asked looking up into his blue,hazy eyes.He reached for her zipper and started to pull it down."If thats what you want"he said."It is".He gave her a smile and finished undoing her jackets."Good"he said as he stepped towards her and wrapped his arms around her bare waist,as she did the same.Kate reached up and kissed him.It was slow and sweet.It was everything she imagined their first kiss to be.He led her over to the and was on top of her.Her body felt so good against hers.Too good.He pulled away and looked down at her face."Sleep is more important right now"he breathed.She just nodded her head.Gibbs rolled off her and brought her back into his arms.She nuzzled her head into his chest and fell asleep almost instantly.Gibbs kissed her head and held her tighter before finally drifting off. The next morning Kate awoke to a strong pain in her left calve.She pulled her legs from under Gibbs'.She grabbed at her leg and burried her face in the mattress to try and quiet her cries of pain.Gibbs was already awake due to the rapid loss of contact from her.He sat up and watched her in pain.He leant over her."What's wrong?"he asked concerned.She took a few deep breaths before turning to answer him."Cramp.In my...calve"she said through deep breaths.He jumped up and went to the end of the bed and grabbed her left foot and slowly started to stretch the leg out."No Gibbs,please"she begged as it got worse.He didnt say anything as his hands started to run up and down her clave.Soft at fitst then harder getting deep into the muscle.Kate laid on her back,her hands covering her face.After a few minutes her breathing started to calm down and the pain started to subside,now just a dull ache.She removed her hands to look down at Gibbs."You're good at that"she commented.He smiled and placed her leg back on the bed."I've had my fare share of cramps"he told her.She smiled and shuffled to the end of the bed,Gibbs kneeling between her legs.She reached out a hand to cup his cheek."Thank you"she said before leaning in for a kiss.He depened the kiss but then stopped,leaning his forehead against hers."We should put some clothes on"he told her.She just nodded.He stood up,placed a kiss to her head and went to check the fire.It was still smoldering so he got it going again,then checked their pants."Nice and warm"he said as he handed her, her pants.They quickly dressed and did up their jackets.Kate came to stand next to Gibbs.She wanted to go home and shower,but she didnt want to leave this place.It was like her and Gibbs' secret hide-away.She hoped this wasnt just a one off thing,but only time will tell.She was about to bring up last night when there was a loud knock on the door."Gibbs?"came Tony's voice.Gibbs rushed to the door and yanked open with a creak."About goddamn time"Gibbs answerd.The smile that apperaed on Tony's and McGee's were priceless."We saw the smoke"McGee told him."Where's Kate?"Tony asked quickly trying to get a peak inside."Right here DiNozzo"she said as she hobbiled to the door.Tony and McGee took in her dishevled appearance."What happened?"McGee asked."I feel through some ice into freeazing water and woke up with a cramp in my calf.Now are we getting out of here or not?"she said.Tony nodded."Ducky is up on the road waiting"he told them.Gibbs went back inside,put out the fire and grabbed their pile of still damp clothes.He came back and threw the pile at Tony who caught them.Gibbs put an arm around Kate and started walking into the wilderness,McGee showing them the way.Tony picked up Kate's blouse."Boss?"he called out."Don't ask"Gibbs replied as he kept walking.They could hear the search dogs up ahead.Gibbs looked down at Kate who was trying to put as mich weight as she could on her leg without hurting it our causing another cramp."You ok?"he asked quietly.She looked up at him."Fine"she said and then continued focussing on the path ahead.They soon reached the road where Ducky was sitting in the back of his truck waiting for them.He saw Gibbs then saw Kate who looked to be in a worse state then he was."Caitlin what happened?"he asked as he hurried to help Gibbs sit her down."Just a cramped calve muscle"she said as she stretched out her legs.Palmer quickly came around with two blankets.He drapped one around Kate's shoulders then handed the other to Gibbs."And she feel through some ice"Gibbs added.Kate glared at him.He was making a big deal out of nothing."Oh dear.Mr.Palmer grab my thermometer"he told the young M.E assistant."Right away"he answered as he scurried away to find it."Gibbs I think you are need by Tony"Kate tells him starring at Tony who,who is taliking to a local police officer while pointing at Gibbs.He gave a sigh and left and Kate Ducky alone.Kate shook her head."Everything alright?"Ducky asked.Kate turned her tired eyes on him."He is just...I dont know"she started.She didnt want to give too much away."Here you go doctor"Palmer said handing him the thermometer.Kate and Ducky both looked at him and he knew he was not needed."So what happened out there?"Ducky asked as he set up the thermometer.Kate gave a sigh."We got lost.Then we saw the city lights.I kept walking and ended up standing on a frozen lake.The ice broke under my weight.Gibbs saved me and he found the shack we were found in?"she told him,pulling the blanket tighter as she remembered how cold the water had been."Anything else?"Ducky knew there was something else.She didnt meet his gaze.She couldnt even answer him."Ok.Well I'm always here if you need to talk.Now place this under your tongue"he said handing her the thermometer.Kate was finally alowed to go home after being checked by Ducky and informing the Director of what had happened.She dropped her things by the door and headed straight for the shower.Her thoughts kept returning to the events of the night before.How sweet and gentle his kisses were,how wonderful his skin felt against hers.'Stop it Kate.You'll get your hopes up'she thought to herself.She washed her face then decided to get out.She threw on some track pants and an old sweater.She rumaged through her fridge and settled for bacon and eggs.She was told to take the rest of the day off,so enjoyed her meal and a movie in silence.No call telling her to get to work.No paperwork to do.She eventually fell asleep.Hours later she woke to someone pounding on her front door."Coming"she called as she wiped the sleep from her eyes.She opened the door and paused."What are you doing here?"was the first thing that came to her mind."You werent answering your phone.Came to see if you were alright"he told her."Oh sorry I fell asleep"she told him."I should go"he said.Kate shook her head."It's ok,come in"she invited him.He stepped in and she closed the door behind her.She turned to face him.He was in dark blue jeans and a red hooded jumper.'Way to many clothes for my liking'Kate thought to herself."How are you feeling?Do you want some coffee?"she asked quickly."I'm fine"he said.There was an awkward silence between them.They both knew how the other felt but wasnt quiet sure how to proceed from here.Kate finally got the courage to get things rolling."Gibbs I dont know what to say.Last night...I really enjoyed last night.I mean the kissing and sleeping side of last night"this earned her a smile and she began to feel more confident."I guess I'm trying to tell you what I want and the rest is up to you,but I want you to know that this for me wouldn't just be another fling or just sex.I like you Gibbs"she said.The smile stayed on his face as he came to stand in front of her.His eyes staring down into hers."Good"he said,grabbed the hem of her sweater and pulled it over her sensation and her hands went around his neck."Gibbs?"she said softly."I like you too"he answered her unasked question.She smiles and pushes him off her.He looks at her questionly.Her hands grab his jumper and t-shirt and pulled it over his head,then undid his button and zipper and pulled down his pants."Much better"she said before leaning up and kissing him.
