CHAPTER 8:
"I am ready to go back in the field" Ziva said showing Gibbs how well her arm had healed
"I am not sure, the killer knows who you are now, we cannot take any risks" Gibbs said leaning back on his chair his gut was telling him this was not a good idea.
"Well we will have to change my appearance a bit and go in alone" Ziva said looking at Tony and knowing he was not ‘geek material'.
"Fine but if you screw this up its your job on the line, just like I told McGee" Gibbs said knowing he could scare his agents whenever he felt like it, it was abuse of power but that is what helped him sleep at night.
"I will not screw up boss" Ziva said heading off to the elevator
"Where are you going?" Tony asked
"Abby's lab, she needs to get me ready" Ziva said stepping into the elevator
Tony made a break for it, he wanted to see a cat fight and had been told about the hospital by Abby who had been mad ever since. He had moved only a hair before he was held back by Gibbs who had grabbed his collar and then slapped him on the back of the head. He had not realised in the split second of him asking Ziva where she was going the Gibbs had walked over to his desk and had stood behind him.
"Where do you think your going?" Gibbs asked
"Nowhere boss" Tony said sitting back down
"Find the killer's name by the time I get back with coffee" Gibbs said and then disappeared.
"Abby, can we talk?" Ziva asked walking into her lab but finding no signs of Abby
"Abby?" Ziva asked walking around the deserted lab
"I am here Zi-vah" Abby replied in a harsh tone behind her
"I need you to make me a geek" Ziva said
"What so you can steal McGee away from me again?" Abby said walking past her and giving her an evil stare
"No I am going back into the field and finishing this case on my own" Ziva said looking Abby straight in the eyes the ice apparent in their eyes
"Taking over from McGee now are you? You are a backstabbing jerk!" Abby said aiming her caff-pow in Ziva's direction, Ziva ducked and the caff-pow landed on Gibbs as he entered the lab
"Abby! Ziva! Interrogation now!" Gibbs said unimpressed by the newly stained clothing he was wearing.
"Neither of you are leaving this room until you sort this out, either kill each other or be civil do I make myself clear?" Gibbs said closing the door to interrogation before he had the chance to listen to their objections.
Gibbs walked into observation and studied the two women closely for 10 minutes as they sat on opposite ends of the table staring at each other as if either of them blinked they would lose. He grabbed the coffee he had waiting on the table and thought about a similar situation had happened between Tony and Kate when Tony had eaten her sandwich. This was different though this needed to be sorted he could not have a good agent to go waste because the forensic scientist was fighting her over a man, he knew from experience that relationships between co-workers did not work and this had become one of those situations.
"Why are you so angry with me?" Ziva asked Abby who refused to give into the staring competition
"I saw you kiss McGee and you got into bed with him when you knew I could see you" Abby said slamming her fists on the desk and standing up
"We were undercover and that is part of the operation" Ziva said mimicking Abby's movements
"I heard you talking to Tony that night, I know that you have feelings for him" Abby said firing another accusation at her
"Who Tony?" Ziva said half laughing "You have got to be joking me, Tony is another hungry man that will flirt with any woman who shows him attention" Ziva said looking at her reflection in the two way glass
"Then why did you go after MY McGee?" Abby asked this time with less energy
"Because he is a truly decent man, kind hearted and sweet and treats a woman how she should be treated" Ziva said sitting down finally giving up "You have treated him like a piece of meat, picking him up and putting him down whenever it suits you and it is not fair" Ziva said stating a fact
"So what are you like dating?" Abby asked
"We have only ever been on one date and I can honestly say I would make it a second if it was possible" Ziva said being totally honest with Abby knowing that her boss was standing on the other side of that two way glass watching them and now probably trying to find a suitable replacement for her job.
