------------"Six Months Later..."------------
Story by R. O. Knight
based on the hit television series "NCIS"
Created by Donald P. Bellisario

The squad room at NCIS HQ was relatively quiet at 4:30 in the afternoon, except for the conversation going on between Gibbs and his team.

It had been a long week for Gibbs and his team and today, Friday, they had finally brought their current case to a close. Now they took the opportunity to just relax and catch up. The perfect time for divulging long-kept secrets.

Tony sat at his desk, engaged in a game of "toss the paper ball at McGee". Ziva was seated right on the edge of Tony's desk. McGee is at his desk trying not to get hit by one of Tony's paper balls.

Gibbs was seated behind his desk, but he was not alone. Sitting in his lap was his favorite forensic scientist and lover.

Gibbs and Abby had thought long and hard about the news that they were now sharing with their co-workers/friends.

"You're kidding, right?" Tony looked in almost total disbelief at what he had just heared from his boss and their forensic scientist Abby.

"Nope." Abby replied cheerfully, a big smile spread across her face. "Tomorrow will be six months exactly."

McGee was utterly stunned, shocked by the news that his boss and the woman that he had once had a relationship with, were now a couple

"W-well, well...Congratulations. You guys sure look happy." McGee said.

Tony looked like he was still struggling with the whole concept. Ziva just displayed a look of surprise, although she tried not to look so surprised--even though she pretty much was.

"Betcha didn't see that one coming, did ya Ziva?" Abby directed at her friend.

Ziva stood and moved casually towards her own desk, and then turned and made a circle between her desk and Tony's.

"Well, I will admit that the probability was highly unlikely, but..." Ziva tried to appear as if she had known it all along, but then, in the end, she decided to just admit the truth. "I suppose you did surprise me, yes."

Abby couldn't help but laugh at her friend, Ziva. Sometimes she could be downright hilarious.

"Aren't you a little old..." Tony interjected, the question meant for his boss. "...I mean you guys haven't, well--You Know?"

"Is that really any of your business, DiNozzo?" Gibbs asked his Senior Field Agent.

"Well no, but I just meant-" Tony tried.

"Ziva." Gibbs nodded, giving her permission to do what he would normally have done--if only he could reach that far.

Ziva, who had already taken up her seat on the edge of Tony's desk once again, reached around and whacked Tony on the back of the head.

"Ow!" Tony yelped immediately reaching up to rub his new sore spot.

"Just forget I ever brought it up." Tony said quietly.

Again Abby, this time along with Gibbs, couldn't help but let out another laugh.

"Thank you, Ziva." Gibbs said with approval, cracking a grin.

"My Pleasure." Ziva replied with a grin while leaning closer to Tony and giving him a wink.

"Serves you right Tony," McGee added with a grin.

"I'm sorry Probie, I don't recall asking for your opinion." Tony remarked in that wise-ass tone, as was his custom, as he swiped a paper ball off of his desk and tossed it at McGee.

McGee caught the paper ball in mid-air and flashed Tony a "nice-try" grin. "Nice try Tony," McGee smirked, as he tossed the paper ball into the waste basket beside his desk.

Just then the familiar "Ping" of the elevator announced to the team that they had a visitor.

Ducky managed to waddle right into the middle of their conversation on his way out for the day.

"Goin' somewhere Duck?" Gibbs asked his friend upon seeing him there in the squad room.

"I'm afraid Mother hasn't at all been quite herself lately, so I'm off to accompany her to the doctors'." Ducky replied grinning at his old friend.

"I'm not interrupting anything important am I?" Ducky asked, aware that there was something going on before he walked into the squad room.

"Not all Ducky." Abby replied.

The team took the time to fill Ducky in on what they had just been told.

Ducky chuckled at the news, looking up at his friend. "Let's try to hang on to this one, shall we."

"It's alright Duck, she knows." Gibbs said flashing a sly grin.

"Know what?" Abby asked of Gibbs, curious as usual.

"That I'm a bastard." Gibbs replied, kissing the back of Abby's neck.

"You are not!" Abby chuckled. She lifted of his hands and kissed the back of it gently.

Ducky shifted his bag in his hand, and then bid his farewells as he began to make ready to leave.

Abby saw her opportunity. Now she was ready--now was the RIGHT time.

Abby had another secret that she had been keeping from everyone, even Gibbs, for the last three and a half weeks. It wasn't that she was afraid or anything, she just wanted to be sure that Gibbs decided to go through with telling the rest of the team about the two of them before she said anything.

"Wait." Abby said to Ducky as she stood up.

"I really am in a hurry Abby." Ducky asserted.

"Please, this is important Ducky." Abby pleaded.

Ducky smiled and agreed. "What is it?" he asked gently.

She drew in a breath before continuing. "There's something else." she informed the team, slowly--carefully. "Another secret."

Gibbs stood up behind her, his curiosity now peaked. "What is it Abs?" he asked softly, concerned.

Abby turned to face Gibbs, "Baby steps" she reminded herself. She reached down into the pocket of her lab coat and pulled out a small, slender object which she handed to Gibbs.

Gibbs looked at the object that Abby had handed him, not recognizing what it was at first. "What is it?" he asked quietly.

Then suddenly it came to him. He looked up from the object to Abby, his eyes glistening.

Tony had stood up, trying desperately to figure out what Gibbs and Abby were saying to each other, because they were being so quiet--at the moment anyway.

McGee stepped up beside Tony, his curiosity peaked as well. "What're they saying?" McGee asked Tony, in a whisper.

"Wish I knew." Tony whispered back.

Ducky and Ziva exchanged curious glances with each other--both anxious to know what was going on. Ziva shrugged.

Gibbs signed, in ASL, "This isn't a joke?" to which Abby responded by signing back "Nope. I'm Pregnant."

Gibbs dropped the object onto his desk without thinking as he wrapped his arms around Abby and pulled her into a passion-driven kiss.

Ziva, McGee, and Ducky were thrown for a loop as they still had no idea what was going on, and things were getting more mysterious by the second.

Tony happened to see Gibbs drop the object onto his desk. Tony stood rooted to his spot focused on the object trying to figure out what it was. Then it suddenly hit him, and he nearly fell backwards over his chair as the shock of the realization knocked him off balance and sent him sprawling backwards to the floor.

The racket that Tony made startled everyone, including Gibbs and Abby, who looked more amused than anything else.

"You alright Tony?" McGee asked as he bent to help pull Tony up off of the floor.

"She's pregnant!" Tony gasped, as McGee and Ziva helped him to his feet. "She's pregnant!"

"What're you talking about?" McGee asked, confused by Tony's statement.

Regaining his balance, thanks to some help from his co-workers/friends, Tony pointed to Gibbs' desk and the small object, which he now knew to be an E.P.T. test, that was laying there. "That's a pregnancy test." he pointed out.

Ziva, McGee, and Ducky moved in for a closer look, and upon discovering that what Tony had said was true. They all looked at Gibbs and Abby.

"I will admit I did not see that one coming." Ziva remarked.

Abby just beamed from ear to ear, as she knew Gibbs was doing the same thing behind her, now ready to share her good news with the world.

"Guys...I'm pregnant."

"I take it this means you're no longer available, Jethro." Jenny Shepherd remarked with a grin, as she came around the corner and entered the bullpen.

Director Jenny Shepherd had been listening intently to the whole conversation from the top of the stairs.

"I guess so Jen." Gibbs said with a slight grin.

Ducky dropped his bag on the floor and moved over to the couple. "Well let me be the first to say, Congratulations...both of you," Ducky said with a smile as he hugged Abby and then Gibbs.

The rest of the team followed suit and they all laughed and talked about it for sometime (Ducky left of course to take care of his mother) before they finally decided to call it a day and head home.

As Gibbs and Abby were the last ones to leave, Gibbs helped her with her coat and then with the biggest smile on his face Gibbs kissed Abby on the nose.

"I guess I better get started as soon as we get home," Gibbs said.

"On what?" Abby asked trying, for herself, to figure out what he was talking about.

"On the nursery, silly." Gibbs chuckled with a grin as he wrapped his arm around Abby and led her towards the elevator.
